(“Hi my name is Alex, sorry to interrupt, I just have a new show that I reckon you should totally come see, if that’s ok? Completely fine if not, you might be busy that night? Sorry, my friend Jess said I need to be more assertive, so ignore all that and definitely come!… if you want.”)
Alex Jae is one to watch.
In her highly anticipated debut solo show, Alex explores what life is like as an NA (‘non-assertive’; a phrase she has coined but you can totally use it if you want). Alex is known for her unique style and ability to surprise audiences – juxtaposing her bubbly girl-next-door appearance with a darker, hilarious edge. From dating to relationships, health kicks and being child free by choice, Alex has an hour of jam packed laughs and stories for everyone except her mum.
After climbing the Sydney comedy ranks, Alex has worked as a writer and featured cast member on Channel 10’s Pilot Week and Saturday Night Rove, as a writer on Channel 10’s Show Me The Movie! and as a panelist on Celebrity Name Game, and has opened for comedians such as Wil Anderson, Greg Behrendt, Gareth Reynolds and Dave Anthony (‘The Dollop Podcast’).
When she’s not overthinking things, doing stand-up and working on the telly, Alex also co-hosts the hit podcast ‘The Ladies Guide to Dude Cinema’, where her and mate Bec Charlwood review the movies dudes can’t believe they haven’t seen. A podcast seeing movies through the eyes of two ladies (“The time for this podcast is now”), fan reviews call it “binge-worthy”, “reading my mind”, “super fun, funny and light hearted” and “this podcast has changed how I talk about movies with everyone”. And Alex totally reckons she totally agrees.
Here’s some nice things people have said about her:
“Thoroughly engaging and entertaining… Really clever, tight, well scripted, funny and beautifully timed… a class act.” WeekendNotes
“Genuinely makes me laugh. Not many do.” Dave Anthony (The Dollop)
“One of my favourite new comedians on the scene. A future star for sure.” Rove McManus
“The best comic her generation has squeezed out of its pores.” Tim Ferguson
“Real funny. Real cool. Go see her, you losers.” Luke Heggie
“A joy onstage… so much fun and laughter the long applause and cheers didn’t seem enough thanks.” Chuck Moore Reviews
