Speaker: Paul Cowley
Topic: Caring for prisoners, ex-offenders and marginalised people in the light of the legacy of William Wilberforce.
Paul Cowley is the Executive Director of the William Wilberforce Trust, is the Director of Alpha for Prisons and Caring For Ex-offenders, is on the international board for Prison Fellowship, a Minister at Holy Trinity Brompton, London, and a former Prisoner himself.
A bit of Paul's background ...Paul is the Executive Director of Social Transformation and, which includes Alpha for Prisons, Caring for Ex-Offenders, Alpha for Forces, and the William Wilberforce Trust which encompasses , a counter human trafficking unit, the homeless drop in, Crosslight Debt counselling, as well as a number of courses dealing with money, debt, depression, and recovery.
He and his team support and co-ordinate the growth and organisation of these ministries across the country and increasingly around the world. Their heart is to meet with people in their need, whether they are trapped in poverty and isolation on our most deprived inner city housing estates, or are homeless, workless and marginalised. They care for those struggling under the burdens of debt, addictions and depression, and help them to find freedom. And fight on behalf of the most vulnerable of all, the children, women and men whose lives are blighted by modern day slavery and human trafficking.
In June 2010 Paul took on the St. Augustine’s Parish. And his vision of seeing it function as the Wilberforce Centre is becoming a reality. During the week, there are projects like the homeless shelter, Crosslight, the recovery courses and much, much more running out of it. It is already a flourishing community with people needs being met in the simplest and most profound ways.
