Inspirational Spaces – Alex Ritchie (e2) and John Bilmon (PTW) (NSW)
When: 09 December 2009 at PYD Buliding Waterloo.Alex Ritchie and John Bilmon pair up to speak about design and branding in the context of environments and architecture – how we relate to the space around us and how it can affect us. What makes an inspirational space? What makes a retail space? What makes a relaxing space?
Alex is Creative Director and co-founder of E2, a multi-disciplinary design consultancy. He will talk about branding a nation by encapsulating the essence of a country to create not just design, but also experience – exemplified through Alex’s contribution to the development of the London Millennium Dome. Alex has designed and managed the development of brand focused architectural projects through to retail, exhibition and packaging design. His skills enable him to think beyond the wider context of architecture, developing 2D and 3D interactive and immersive brand experiences.
John is Managing Director of PTW Architects. He led the creative architectural and planning team responsible for the design of The Water Cube – the Aquatic centre for 2008 Olympics in Beijing. PTW is renowned for its award-winning high rise commercial buildings and has augmented its strong reputation through a diversity of project types. These projects range from large scale and complex commercial and residential projects to sports facilities, cultural and health projects and urban design. John focuses on PTW bringing a different cultural and design sensibility to projects in different countries – an approach that has resulted in the firm being well-regarded, particularly in Asia. John is also a past President of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) NSW chapter.
