The Kookaburra Who Stole The Moon
An Australian bush story with orchestra
Composed by Peter Winkler
Presented by Orchestra Nova
Music Director: John Nottle
“A splendid introduction to the instruments of the orchestra”
Newcastle City Hall ~ 28th March 2010 ~ 2pm
"Utterly rapt attention...from the several hundred 4 to 8 year olds watching this bewitching blend of Australian music, mime and storytelling...assisted by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Rarely have I seen so many small people so happily and thoroughly engrossed." The Scotsman This internationally acclaimed work, which has been presented by Australia's major symphony orchestras, is an ideal introduction to the orchestra, and indigenous culture, for young children. The music, told in the style of a Dreamtime myth, tells a delightful story through narration, dance, didgeridoo and orchestra of a greedy kookaburra who falls in love with the moon and steals it from the night sky. The other animals, frog, lizard, snake, emu, wombat and kangaroo try to make the kookaburra laugh and release the moon so it can escape and return to the sky.
