We are holding a major fundraiser on Saturday 13th March. All proceeds will go to aid the continued efforts of Doctors working to help 300,000 injured victims of the 7.0 Mw earthquake, which occurred at 16:53 local time on Tuesday, 12 January 2010 in Haiti. The event will be held at the Spanish Centre, 244 Mortimer road, Acacia Ridge Sports Complex, near Archerfield Airport, from Midday to Midnight. There will be live performances as well as guest DJs. An artistic marathon of live music and colourful dance performances will enthrill you during the day, and Brisbane's best Latin music DJs will make you dance well into the night. All proceeds will go to the continued efforts of Doctors working to help 300,000 injured people, under precarious conditions in Haiti. An estimated three million people were affected by the quake; the Haitian Government reports that between 217,000 and 230,000 people had been identified as dead, an estimated 300,000 injured, and an estimated 1,000,000 homeless. The death toll is expected to rise. They also estimated that 250,000 residences and 30,000 commercial buildings had collapsed or were severely damaged. The organising committee is also holding a public meeting on Saturday 14th March, at the Spanish Centre, at 2pm for people wishing to participate in organising a similar fundraiser for the 2010 Chilean earthquake which occurred off the coast of the Maule Region of Chile on February 27, 2010, at 03:34 local time rating a magnitude of 8.8 on the moment magnitude scale and lasting about three minutes.
