PRESENTED BY:

Rob Knowsley, Principal Consultant with Knowsley Management Services and a member of the Institute of Management Consultants.

Topic:  The Business and Management of Legal Practice

Rob has worked in, managed or advised 134 law firms since qualifying as a lawyer 35 years ago.  'Partners often work too hard, suffer too much stress, and have far too much capital invested, for the relatively paltry returns they generate... and operating this way severely limits their succession options and the value partners receive for their interests when they wish to sell down.' In this presentation Rob will provide powerful skills and tips, satisfying Rule 42 and addressing key business and management practices that law businesses usually do not do well in. He guarantees his ideas on costing and concentrating to maximise value can increase profitability.

Allan Watt, Dip Policing BBS, MSc (Hons), CFCE, CFE. Head of e.forensics at e.law Australia Pty. Ltd.

Topic:  The Forgotten Evidence

Allan is an independent computer forensic expert. Currently, he leads e.law’s national e.forensics team and works as a guest lecturer for the University of Sydney. Allan has partnered with some of Australia’s most well known corporate, government and legal organisations as well as forensic accountants and liquidators. Allan has found that, outside of computer crime, lawyers often disregard the information held in mobile phones, computers and other devices as irrelevant or novel. In this seminar Allan will discuss the use of electronic evidence in cases, including criminal, family, employment and corporate law cases.

CLE/CPD Requirements

Members will recall the requirement is now 10 MCLE/CPD units each year, including at least one unit in each of the following three core areas: Ethics and Professional Responsibility; Practice Management and Business Skills; and Professional Skills.  In addition, in every three-year period practitioners are required to complete a component relating to the following three issues: equal employment opportunity; discrimination and harassment; and occupational health and safety.
