One reviewer raved about a recent Angels show, calling it “rock ’n’ roll thunder”. That description has now prompted the name of the band’s latest tour.
Welcome to The Angels: Echoes Of Thunder.
Two sets. No supports. The Angels onstage for the whole show. Playing their greatest hits. And more.
We’re talking wall-to-wall hits, songs ingrained in Australia’s rock ’n’ roll DNA – Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again, No Secrets, Take A Long Line, Shadow Boxer, Marseilles, Comin’ Down, After The Rain, Face The Day, Mr Damage, I Ain’t The One, Let The Night Roll On, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place … and more.
“What we love about playing two sets is it allows us to dig deep into the catalogue and play those songs that were hits for the true fans,” John Brewster says.
The Echoes Of Thunder tour kicks off in Melbourne, at Doncaster’s Shoppingtown Hotel, on October 10 and runs until the week before Christmas, finishing in the band’s birthplace and spiritual home of Adelaide.
“It’s been a big year, but we don’t want to stop playing,” Rick Brewster smiles. “The energy in the band is at an all-time high, and that’s because we’re getting such an incredible reaction from the fans.”
“We loved that description, ‘rock ’n’ roll thunder’,” John adds. “And I guess it is.”
The Echoes Of Thunder tour caps a remarkable couple of years for the legendary Australian band. They celebrated their 50th anniversary with the 50 Not Out tour, and released their 14th studio album, Ninety Nine, which sits comfortably in the band’s classic catalogue.
“The Angels still rage with the passion and intensity of a young rock band just starting out,” declared STACK magazine, which hailed Ninety Nine as one of the Top 24 albums of 2024. “Fifty years in, The Angels still thrill.”
The band is also being honoured with their own laneway in Adelaide – The Angels Lane.
The Angels – John Brewster, Rick Brewster, Sam Brewster, Tom Brewster and Nick Norton – are now releasing a new live album, Go For Broke, which captures the band in full flight.
This tour will climax with a massive show at The Gov in Adelaide, where the band recorded the Go For Broke live album.
As Nick Norton remarks in the Go For Broke liner notes, “Here’s to many more years of these classic songs being celebrated and a killer live band taking them on the road.”
That’s the plan. For The Angels, there is no exit.
