Landscape Function Workshops

Nambucca Valley Landcare is hosting a workshop series on landscape rehydration in partnership with SCU and the SEQld and NNSW Innovations Hub. 

We are aiming to provide information and on-ground options for farmers to manage the flow of water through their property. Some examples of what we will be learning and implementing can be found at this link:

Landscape Function - Farming Together

In this series, we are aiming for a local community of practice which involves co-design and co-learning. In the spirit of 'farmers learning from farmers', by purchasing a ticket, you are committing to attending two hands-on workshops, planning your own works, learning from those around you and sharing your knowledge with someone else. 

The series involves the following:

• Resources provided for reading prior to the hands-on workshop. This is in lieu of a day of theory and is necessary to be undertaken to ensure all participants have basic knowledge. 
• Online Q&A Session 1 - tentative date 12th March 6pm. This session will outline the workshop series, highlight basic required knowledge and answer any questions you might have.
• Hands-on Session 1 - we will be installing a structure by hand to help capture and slow waterflow across the landscape. There will be time to discuss the theory and learn from each other during the day. Morning tea and lunch will be catered. You will go home with some knowledge and the power to start planning your own works.
• Online Session 2 - join us to discuss your plans for your own place; Q&A session; Session 2 hands-on prep. 
• Hands-on Session 2 - 16th May. Participants in Session 1 can volunteer to host Session 2 with further hands-on works. 

Topics covered include:

• slow and spread water through the landscape
• simple structures to retain water and increase plant diversity
• reducing erosion and loss of fertility
• simple tools to assess your landscape
• the importance of surface roughness and wetlands

Ticket cost of $150 covers materials and catering for both Sessions.
