In 1996, the MTV Unplugged grunge era took it's final curtain call...
In a dark candle lit Brooklyn theatre, Layne Staley walks out in black sunglasses to an eruption of applause; he has not played live with Alice In Chains for over two years, and this will be the last time he performs a headline set with the band. He gingerly takes to the mic stand, and croons the aching opening to Nutshell.
With Alice In Chains' haunting "Unplugged" celebrating its 30th anniversary, THE GRUNGE SHOW have curated an incredible sit-down tribute to the seminal broadcast. There will be acoustic guitars, cardigans, candles, flowers, mood lighting, surprises and most importantly, the legendary tunes. These will include fan favourites such as Rooster, Down In A Hole, The Man Who Stole The World, Come As You Are, Black, Jeremy, Plush and many more played across two sprawling one-hour sets.
As well as being a critical and commercial success, the MTV Unpluggedseries was a cultural touchstone and institution that climactically intersected the early 90s grunge hype. This culminated in some of the most powerful, memorable performances ever captured on camera, most notably by Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jamand Stone Temple Pilots.
THE GRUNGE SHOW is not only a tribute, but an experience. Through audiovisual storytelling, interviews, behind the scenes footage and TV clips from the era, you will leave the show with an appreciation of the rich history and immortalized songs. With an unparalleled attention to respecting the details of the musical storytelling and featuring some of Sydney’s best working musicians such as Ben Leek (Vocals), Paul Bardetta (Bass), Tony Ward (Drums), Jacob Ingram (Guitar/Vocals) and Ryan Sorensen (Guitar/Vocals), this is a show you will not want to miss!
