Join us this October as our Sydney community comes together for the Walk to Remember at the Royal Botanic Gardens, on the Band Lawn and Maiden Pavilion.

Location: Band Lawn/Maiden Pavilion, Royal Botanic Garden Sydney
(Near Botanic House and just a short walk from the Sydney Opera House. The area is easily accessible by train and ferry. Metered parking is available along Mrs Macquaries Road, Art Gallery Road, and Macquarie Street. Secure undercover parking is available at The Domain Car Park.)

We gather to remember our precious babies and children by taking the “steps” they never got to take. Everyone is welcome—bereaved parents, families, friends, and supporters. This is a space to reflect, honour, and connect with others who understand, and to share in the comfort of community. Register now to join us in this meaningful event.

Event Schedule:

  • Arrival: From 2:00pm for registration
  • Ceremony: 2:30pm (short service of remembrance; limited seating is available)
  • Walk: Commencing at 3:00pm (approximately 15–20 minutes, with the option to extend)
  • After the Walk: From 3:30pm – 5:00pm enjoy live music, lawn games, and afternoon tea back at the Band Lawn and Maiden Pavilion. Families are encouraged to bring picnic blankets for extra comfort during afternoon tea.
  • What to Bring:
Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for walking. Don’t forget sun protection and a water bottle to stay hydrated.

This afternoon offers a supportive and peaceful environment to honour and remember our little ones. The tranquil garden setting provides space to walk, reflect, and connect with others who understand. This event takes place in a stunning location within the Royal Botanic Gardens, surrounded by the waters of Sydney Harbour and tranquil ponds. While these features create a serene and beautiful atmosphere, they also come with risks. For everyone’s safety, we kindly remind parents and guardians to supervise children at all times and ensure all participants stick to the footpaths during our walk and the allocated Band Lawn and Maiden Pavillion for our post walk activities.

A supportive, family-friendly event that is pram and wheelchair accessible.

A walk of love. A day of remembrance. A community of support.

Photography and Videography Notice

If you would prefer not to be photographed or recorded, we kindly ask that you speak with a member of our event staff upon arrival, and we will be happy to make suitable arrangements.

**Frequently asked questions and more details**

**Did you know?**

Our annual Walks to Remember began as a way for families who have experienced the loss of a baby or child to meet together in remembrance, love, and connection.

**Are pinwheels included?**

All tickets include a pinwheel, with the exception of the child ticket. Pinwheels are suitable for ages 3+. Children under 3 can be registered for free, and will not receive a pinwheel.

**It’s nearly lunchtime, is food included?**

Yes, light afternoon tea will be provided

**What to expect:**

Our Red Nose annual Walks to Remember are about making connections while honouring the love and loss that we all share.

You may find that connecting with people is often easier with other people who really “get it”, or you might feel nervous about talking with others who have lost a precious child. There will be many members of the Red Nose staff team and community to help you feel comfortable.

You can expect to see larger family groups, living siblings, and other loving children joining in at the Walk. You’ll see some joyful elements like bubbles, cakes, face painting, and butterflies—these are all part of celebrating our connection to our children.

And this event is also a time to reflect, embracing both our deepest sorrow and the joy our children brought into our lives. So in the remembrance service and the Walk itself, you can expect that we’ll focus on our enduring love for our babies or children who died, and the milestones we’ll never see with them.

Photography and videography will be taking place during today’s event, and selected images or footage may be shared on our official social media channels. If you would prefer not to appear in any photos or recordings, please inform a staff member at your earliest convenience.

**How much are tickets?**

Tickets start at $10 and include a pinwheel, with discounts for groups, and if you’re a Heart Strings member, you can get cheaper tickets with the discount code from your welcome letter. For more information about Heart Strings, and to sign up, please visit our website here.

If you’re experiencing financial difficulty, you don’t need to miss out! Please select the “sponsored tickets” option when you register.

**Where can I buy the Walk to Remember shirt?**

We’re partnering with Above Byron Printing for personalised event t-shirts again this year. They generously donate a portion of the sale of each Walk to Remember shirt to Red Nose, which helps us to support grieving families across the country.

Please place your order at least 3 weeks before your Walk, to make sure it arrives in time. Try to add an extra week if you live in WA or remote areas, because these shirts are posted from Byron Bay (Cavenbah) on the east coast of Australia. Tanja from Above Byron Printing says thank you!

While this event is family-friendly, the safety and supervision of children in your care remain your responsibility.
