Helen Perris will celebrate both her birthday and her triumphant return to the stage since going on hiatus to have her second child, at The Newsagency with special guest appearances by friends and awesome musicians, Terra Lexus and Alison Avron. Prepare for a night of fun and frivolity, with cake, balloons and great indie pop music!

Growing up, Helen was fed a diet of Fleetwood Mac, Leo Sayer, ABBA and Elvis Presley courtesy of regional AM radio, alongside her classical piano and violin training. Following her introduction into the world of musical theatre, it was probably inevitable that her musical style was destined to have a timeless feel with a storyteller’s bent. While Helen's influences include Tori Amos, Katie Noonan and Sarah Slean, she continues to be inspired by all forms of music. She sings of the mundane made sublime: the joys/terrors of home ownership, parenthood and dealing with people on the internet. Helen takes her art seriously, but she doesn’t take herself seriously.

In 2011, preparation met opportunity when she was invited to sing an original song for punk cabaret artist, Amanda Palmer. This led to Helen landing gigs at Peats Ridge Festival, supporting Kim Boekbinder and Brendan Maclean, and corporate shows around Sydney. Using social media to build her audience, Helen successfully crowdfunded her Debut EP Flesh through Pozible, releasing it in March 2012 and supporting its release with an east coast Australian tour.
