MIC CONWAY‘s NATIONAL JUNK BAND + LUCIE THORNE
Amid rumours that Mic Conway and his rugged band of rhythmagicians have been holed up in a log cabin concocting a new album, reports are appearing that a “Mr Rabbit” has escaped. Described as having big ears, a hairy disposition and an uncharacteristic dislike of Greens, he's no Easter Bunny, but he’ll hold your eggs hostage. So lock up your pets and barricade the back door because the Rabbit Proof Fence isn’t big enough to keep this one out.
Jug band blues, political satire and lunatic on-stage antics combine as a new-vaudevillian comedy cabaret. Audiences know Mic Conway’s tongue-in-cheek style from “Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band” and “Circus Oz”. From Byron Bay BluesFest to Port Fairy and Woodford Folk Festivals to Adelaide Cabaret Festival… the National Junk Band have become festival favourites for their unique collision of fire, illusion, passion, irreverent satire, magic, singing saws, flying chooks, musical mayhem and some very funny songs. There really is nothing like them in Australia today.
Expect
the unexpected as these “virtuosos of the bizarre” create a live
stage experience that must be seen and heard to be believed, wielding
National guitars, ukuleles, a sousaphone, a phono-fiddle, actual
garbage cans and even the kitchen sink. Oh, and look out for Mr
Rrrrabbit.....

Sharing the night with the Junk Band is the extraordinary LUCIE THORNE. Lauded for her unique voice, poetic lyricism, and tender-to-gutsy electric guitar playing, Lucie Thorne has earned her place as one of the most striking lyricists and voices of Australian contemporary song.
“Australia’s PJ Harvey… possessing the punch of Cat Power and the wise words of Joni Mitchell.” : The Courier Mail.
“Thorne writes some of the most simple and beautiful songs you will hear.” : **** The Age.
