Tángalo are a Sydney-based tango quintet who perform a mix of original compositions and existing tangos.

Formed in 2011 by Emily-Rose Šarkova and Owen Salomé, Tángalo grew from a desire to create a greater awareness of tango culture in Australia and the fierce desire to see more tango-dancing to live tango-music.

Successful performances at festivals including the 2013 Made in Argentina, Buenos Aires in the Southern Highlands and the 2012 & 2013 National Folk Festivals have seen Tángalo become a favourite among dancers and audiences. 2013 saw the group tour with Argentine tango singer Fabían Rodríguez and collaborate with Belentango and Tango Butterfly.

In 2014, Tángalo are recipients of an Australia Council for the Arts JUMP mentorship, which will see them travel to Argentina and work in close collaboration with bandoneon player Hugo Satorre (Orquesta Victoria, Otros Aires)

Tángalo use Violin, Guitar, Double Bass, Flute, Accordion, Piano and Voices to create a sound that is beguiling and vividly personal. The dazzling instrumental lines and impassioned vocals reference both the poetic background of tango music, and something considerably more modern.
