Daniel Weltlinger's Django Tribute, with the mighty Nigel Date, Ben Panucci, Eddie Bronson, Marcello Maio, Daniel Pliner and Mark Harris!
Daniel has performed and recorded in Australia, Europe, China, the US and Israel with a host of renowned artists and ensembles including German-Gypsy guitar legend Lulo Reinhardt, singer extraordinaire Nadya Golski and her 101 Candles Orkestra, the multiple ARIA award winning ensemble Monsieur Camembert, legendary Yiddish singer Karsten Troyke, Argentinian bandoneonist Joaquín Amenábar and Israeli jazz band Swing de Gitanes amongst countless others. His main projects ‘Zohar’s Nigun’ and ‘The Asthmatix’ brilliantly fuse Jewish themes and Kabbalistic-inspired improvisation within the respective contemporary frameworks of jazz and electronica/hip-hop, both groups having released their debut albums in 2012 to rave reviews worldwide.
Daniel is endorsed by a number of top international companies including Danish microphone producer DPA microphones, Scottish-based Skyinbow acoustic pickups, US-based Saga instruments and the French multinational bank BNP Paribas who commissioned him in 2010 to record an album dedicated to the music of French-Gypsy composer Django Reinhardt.
He also co-composes with producer Bruce Maginnis for the international production music library houses Audio Network and Fable, as well as guest lectures in Classical and Contemporary violin studies at the Australian Institute of Music.
In 2010 at the bequest of the Australian branch of European bank BNP Paribas, Daniel agreed to put together a fitting tribute to the great Django Reinhardt. Realising that the overwhelming majority of recordings dedicated to Gypsy-jazz music did not make enough of a focus on Django's prowess as a composer of note, Daniel decided to make this album exclusively centred around Django's unique, quirky and darkly beautiful compositions. As well as the most well-known of his compositions such as Minor Swing and Nuages are compositions that very rarely see the light of day such as Nympheas and Tell Mozart, that are given a new breath of life and serve as a gentle reminder of Django's genius, not only as one of the greatest jazz guitarists of all time but equally one of the greatest jazz composers of his era and indeed also of all time.
