Event Details

Queensland Council for Civil Liberties and Electronic Frontiers Australia present leading Human Rights lawyer Julian Burnside AO QC who will speak about the threat to civil liberties, of mass surveillance. Mr Burnside will be introduced by Carly Nyst, Legal Director of Privacy International.

The civil liberties of all Australians are under threat from government proposals to further expand the surveillance powers available to ASIO and law enforcement agencies. This event is part of EFA's national campaign against indiscriminate communications data retention and unnecessary mass surveillance.

It is also part of the QCCL's celebration of 47 years standing up for the rights of Queenslanders, against Governments of both colours, who have gone out of their way to remove the rights of Queenslanders in the supposed fight against the (lowering) crime rate in this state.

Canapes will be served and a cash bar will be available.
