Sally Whitwell and Quintessential Doll join forces to present a concert that promises to be charmingly quirky and eclectic. Never ones to shy away from the unusual and experimental, Sally Whitwell and Quintessential Doll will perform their original works, plus a composition by Sydney composer Elizabeth Jigalin, using an array of instruments ranging from piano, toy piano, strings, woodwind, guitar, drums and percussion.
Sally Whitwell’s albums Mad Rush (2011) and All Imperfect Things (2013) have garnered her two ARIA awards. She has been dubbed by Limelight Magazine’s as “Australian music’s latest triumphant character” and her performances have been described as “intense, highly charged and technically assured” by The Australian.
More information about Sally can be found on her website: http://sillywhatwell.weebly.com/
Quintessential Doll is the alter-ego of Steph Linsdell. Steph has been an eclectic musician dabbling in various music projects in recent times, from recording and performing post-modern classical piano music for the ABC to playing in an all-girl pop band at Big Day Out. However, Quintessential Doll is Linsdell’s most adventurous project to date: it sees her writing, performing and producing her own brand of darkly whimsical electro-tinged folk music.
Quintessential Doll’s training as a classical musician combined with her ear for pop sensibilities influenced her to create a sonic canvas that exploits orchestral instruments, electro beats, and quirky melodies. Her EP Let Not the Monsters Destroy Me is available from 1 September 2014.
