ROO FRIEND TRIO

ROO FRIEND plays baritone hybrid guitar in this trio with Dorby & Merv.  Roo is a veteran of the Australian pop music scene, having played with most of the 1960s & 70s pop stars working through the famous Jacobson's Agency, including 2 years with Elvis Presley's pianist Larry Muhoberac.

Roo trained with Ike Isaacs & developed his baritone hybrid guitar style because of the absence of a bassist in his band. The result is a fat &  solid rhythm style with walking bass, not unlike a jazz Hammond organ.

Being in charge of the harmonic direction of the sound, Roo can encourage an organic development of sections &  grooves which can & do frequently go anywhere, allowing the bassist & drummer unusual & generous opportunities for creative improvisation.

Roo sings & plays in a style which speaks srongly to blues in jazz, including slide guitar. The result is a mix of tunes & grooves which is always interesting, brings a contemporary/ pop feel into jazzthat manage to be both beautiful & edgy.
