Crime, horror, and a string quartet, this is the nucleus for an evening of unforgettable live chamber music. Cellist Chris Pidcock and colleagues from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra invite you to a night of dark, confronting and powerful music.
Beginning with a new string quartet arrangement of Bernard Hermann's chilling score to Hitchcock's "Psycho", inspired by the music of Bartok, then followed by Bartok’s own gruesome and relentless String Quartet No.4, we then hit the streets of Sydney with hip-hop storyteller Samuel Dobson (Aka Shazza T), leading a most unconventional ensemble for hip-hop music - grand piano, percussion and string quintet - this will be a performance not to be missed.

About Sam Dobson
Samuel Dobson (Aka Shazza-T) is a Sydney based rapper, instrumentalist, composer and producer. His musical journey has traced from his home in the Blue Mountains, through a four year stint at Sydney Conservatorium studying Double bass, to a musical apprenticeship though Africa, resulting in the eclectic lifestyle of a full time jazz musician, composer and hip hop artist. His regular work across all musical genres around Australia has forged him a reputation as an uniquely vivid hip-hop story teller, delving into the darkest corners of the imagination.
With a seemingly endless arsenal of elite instrumentalists at his disposal and the uncanny ability to play bass while rapping, Samuel's live shows are intriguing, unpredictable, and unforgettable. Possessing a vast musical repertoire, he covers the musical landscape from hip-hop to brass band music, trap to jazz, rock to experimental and whatever else he can get his hands on.
For this concert, he will be debuting 3 compositions off his upcoming debut album 'Samuel', a conceptual piece detailing the last 24 hours in the life of an crystal meth dealer in Sydney, and the events that lead to his suicide. Leading a most unconventional ensemble for hip-hop music - grand piano, percussion and string quintet - this will be a performance not to be missed.
“When I listen to your songs, I can actually picture the situation in my head, which is a real talent to bring a story to life” – Rosie Beaton, JJJ
“Brilliant story telling… sell the characters scarily well’ - Lachie Macara JJJ
