We May Never Meet Again: The Music of Amy Winehouse - EP LAUNCH
Movement 9 with Elly Poletti
Melbourne outfit Movement 9 join forces with the phenomenal voice of Elly Poletti to present a unique perspective on the music of Amy Winehouse. After a succession of sold-out shows in Melbourne, catch their only show in Sydney as they launch their EP with a full ten-piece band.
WE MAY NEVER MEET AGAIN pays tribute to Amy Winehouse’s lifelong love of jazz through a suite of brand new arrangements. Reimagined and reinterpreted, they transport Winehouse's songs from the radio to the the smoky clubs where her idols Mingus, Miles and Monk used to play.
Hear the soul-drenched voice of Elly Poletti bring a new life to songs like “Back to Black”, “Tears Dry On Their Own”, and “In My Bed”. Six horns share the stage with her, weaving a backdrop of jazz harmonies and soul hits, comments and countermelodies. Captivating and passionate, We May Never Meet Again offers a new look at Amy Winehouse’s lasting musical legacy.
Fresh from performances at Melbourne international Jazz Festival and White Night 2015, Movement 9 have won a following with their original music and collaborations, led by saxophonist and composer Joe McEvilly. With a voice that transcends genre, Elly Poletti is a multiple-Theatre Guild Award winning vocalist and performer hailing from South Gippsland, Victoria.
Praise for Movement 9:
“…[Joe McEvilly's] arrangement was a tour de force. He hadn’t just written harmonies for horns, but he’d reconstructed the feel and time sense to twist memories and still present a joyous playtime… An ingenious rethinking.” – Canberra Jazz
"A striking collection" ★★★★ — John McBeath, The Weekend Australian
