A tropical low has been developing in Darwin for some time and out of that has come Darwin’s own ska band – The Cyclones. The Cyclones is a 10-piece powerhouse band that plays traditional and two-tone ska. Think of a tropical mix of the traditional 1960s sounds of the Baba Brooks Band, The Skatalites & Eric Morris with the two-tone 1980s sounds of Madness, The Specials & Bad Manners and you are in the eye of The Cyclones. This band, with its tight, tropical tempos of its rhythm section, complemented by the big, fat, brassy sounds of its “stormin’ horns” section, capped off with sweet, soulful vocal melodies and harmonies, is the love-child of Darwin’s own Tony Walton (ex-No Nonsense).
