TIJUANA TAXI – A TRIBUTE TO THE MUSIC OF HERB ALPERT AND THE TIJUANA BRASS
Sipping Whisky Sours, Martinis, and Grasshoppers on a mid-sixites summer eve - these were the glory days of Herb Alpert’s Tijuana Brass.
TIJUANA TAXI is a natty 8 piece ensemble (with real marimba!) that evokes the mood and music of the swinging sixties, faithfully recreating 21 classics of this unique, upbeat, melodic group whose tunes became the backdrop for the 60’s and 70’s and will strike chords of deep nostalgia for baby boomers as well as intrigue and delight the next generation of kitsch-loving younger gen folks. It’s music that spans generations.
With hits such as “Spanish Flea”, “Tijuana Taxi”, “The Lonely Bull” and “A Taste of Honey”, this is the tip of the iceberg of the great body of work put out by Herb and his band.
The band itself is a who’s who of Sydney’s great musicians, and is led by bassist Tina Harris who also leads her 12 piece Cuban salsa orchestra, El Orqueston, a popular Camelot Lounge act, as well as playing for several other multicultural music outfits such as West African funk band, Keyim Ba, Brazilian Jazz project Matanza, 15 piece Cumbia band Cumbiamuffin and latin soul outfit Barrio Soul. Straddling musical worlds, she also pops up in the pit band for various productions at The Hayes Theatre, currently Cabaret The Musical, and previously Little Shop of Horrors, Rent and Sweet Charity.
TIJUANA TAXI is an entertainment experience not to miss!
