In their electro-acoustic line up they use their own compositions as a platform for their improvisations. Grooves intermarry with strong melodies and dreamy sounds; risk and intuition are the cornerstone of their music. Initially inspired by 60’s jazz, they will bring you a combination of groove, experiment and jazz!

Shug Avery is Mary Rapp; Bassist, vocalist and cellist. Shug Avery combines brute strength, jazz virtuosity, rock emotion and noisy catharsis. All “sounds-like” references can be set aside; Shug Avery has created a genre and style all her own. This project explodes with rock, jazz and pop influences through engrossing improvisation.

What is Jazzgroove?

Jazzgroove is a not for profit organisation presenting high-quality original and improvised music from various jazz related cannons. Our focus is on musicians who are in the early stages of forming a national and international career. Jazzgroove's purpose is to nurture upcoming musicians by allowing a platform and performance opportunity to an established audience through our weekly Tuesday double bill events, marketing/ promotion support while also providing a dialogue and mentorship between past Jazzgroove performers and more experienced musicians.
