So you Think you can Write for Children?
Dr David Reiter is an award-winning text and digital artist, and Publisher / CEO at IP (Brisbane). David's picture book Bringing Down the Wall (2013), was Best Book for Teens & Kids (Canadian Children’s Book Centre).
So You Think You Can Write for Children? This workshop will address the questions like:
• what are the main age groups for children that your work could be targeting?
• are there subjects too hot to handle if you want to achieve good sales?
• is there a market for fiction that educates as well as entertains, and can the two aims work together?
• how to achieve a Winnie-the-Pooh effect by creating stories that speak to us on different levels and that even parents can return to enjoy
• minimalist style: how to keep your style accessible but still engaging.
You’ll learn
• how to storyboard effectively
• how to brief a publisher about how you ‘see” the story being realised in visuals
• about leaving room for the illustrator to convey aspects of the story beyond the text
and preparing your work for print & digital publication, marketing channels & copyright issues.
