Juliana Areias – BOSSA NOVA BABY ( Brazil/Perth)
Juliana Areias celebrates the success of the her first original album “Bossa Nova Baby” with shows in Sydney and Europe.
“The release of Bossa Nova Baby has elevated her above a mere covers singer or bossa specialist. The singer excels in an elegant co-composed duet (Belas Artes) with Australia’s finest Brazilian-oriented 7-string guitarist, Doug de Vries”. The Australian – Tony Hillier
Bossa Nova Baby is her nickname. And now also the title of her first original album.
With over a year of consecutive sold out concerts around Australia, Brazilian singer Juliana Areias launches album worldwide and announces her first concert at the Sydney Opera House (sold-out ) on 8/9, and one night only extra show with her stellar 7 piece band at the Foundry 616 on 9/10, before heading to her European tour.
Recently compared to the singer Bebel Gilberto by Brazil’s acclaimed EPOCA Magazine and by the critics of The Australian Newspaper, Areias says that the Bossa Nova Baby album is a contemporary dialogue between Bossa Nova and other music styles such as jazz, samba, choro, tango, funk and pop. At her live concert, exclusive arrangements of Bossa Nova and MPB Classics are also combined with her original songs. Her band features Perth's top jazz musicians: Graham Wood ( piano), Ray Walker ( guitar), Pete Jeavons (bass and arrangements), Chris Tarr ( drums) , Paul Millard ( sax/flute), plus Sydney's special guest trombonist Dave Panichi.
“It’s bossa that plays soccer with jazz – like it has since the 60’s – and scoring a goal.” – says Antonio Carlos Miguel – music critic of O Globo newspaper and judge member of the Latin Grammy Award – about her song “Flecha” (Arrow), one of the tracks on the Bossa Nova Baby Album. The song is a tribute to Rio de Janeiro's 450st anniversary in 2015.
