“Jane Bunnett and Maqueque… utterly shatters the glass ceiling of Afro Cuban Jazz.” — Boston Globe

“…Bunnett integrates her flute and soprano sax into the Cubans’ music, giving us the best of the past and the contemporary.” – Jazz Times

Four-time JUNO Award winner, two-time Grammy nominee, and Officer of the Order of Canada, soprano saxophonist/flautist Jane Bunnett brings her Maqueque to Australia for the first time.

Introducing the world to some of Cuba’s most promising female musicians, the group blends scintillating Afro-Cuban rhythms, folkloric influences, exhilarating jazz and soulful vocals into an utterly intoxicating blend.

Jane’s extensive work in Cuba has seen her perform with the great Hilario Duran, and her band Spirits Of Havana provided important performance opportunities to young talents like Dafnis Prieto, Yosvany Terry and David Virelles. In this latest outfit, Jane says the all-female line-up provides the band with an invigorating and unique energy that is both dynamic and driving.

Jane Bunnett (soprano saxophone/flute) Daymé Arocena (vocals) Dánae Olano (piano) Magdelys Savigne (percussion) Célia Jiménez (bass) Yissy García (drums).
