NICK GREGORY (MELB) TRIO

Playing in Sydney for the first time with an exceptional band, NICK GREGORY presents an array of fresh compositions & classic standards.  Nick Gregory (they/ them) is a Filipino-Australian Naarm-based improviser & composer currently undertaking the Jazz & Improvisation Honours course at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. Their work draws from the music of Bill Frisell, Reinier Baas, Ornette Coleman & their mentor, Helen Svoboda. Gregory has shaped their identity under the guidance of Sam Anning, Scott Tinkler, Sunny Kim & Stephen Magnusson. Exploring the improvisatory world through both free & composed music, their work reflects a sense of playful elasticity. They are captivated by the quirks of organic, volatile sound.
