As students undertaking the Project and Event Management unit, we present a music event, in association with Rubix Warehouse on Saturday, November 14th. We are a country born of multiculturalism, and by working together, we are seeking to produce an event that celebrates diversity through music, while raising awareness of current issues surrounding refugees in Australia. Music is a language that unites all cultures, and we are proud to use this as our platform. By showcasing three acts that support this cause, we encourage both students, as well as the wider community, to increase their enquiry on the issue.

Diafrix

When you think multi-cultural Melbourne based hip-hop, no other artist springs to mind as prevalently as the strikingly unique duo that is Diafrix. It’s no coincidence the charismatic, high-energy performers have gained a reputation for their recorded body of work and live performances, seeing them grace stages around the world at the likes of Glastonbury Festival, Big Day Out and Pyramid Rock. Connecting with audiences and other artists alike through their African Refugee heritage and slickly sublime music of hope and hardship, Diafrix is a sight to be held onstage.

With countless stellar reviews of their high impact, high energy and uplifting live displays of enduring emotion and cheeky charm, a Diafrix gig is not merely just a fun show, but an experience that has to be seen to be believed."Diafrix gave the crowd no option other than to get involved and have a damn good time along with them." - Music Feeds

"I can only describe Diafrix’s live sound as floating on fluffy white clouds and being at peace with the world." - Reverb Street Press

Bringing to the Rubix Stage the performance they are renowned for, Diafrix is going to remind the crowd exactly what “hip hop is all about: universally uplifting, inspiring and intellectually stimulating music with a solid beat that keeps it unapologetically real." - Music Feeds

Guaranteed to get the room bouncing as they shake the foundations of the intimate venue, Diafrix’s headline set is one that you will not want to miss…. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Dub Princess

Bringing her eclectic mix of dubby Reggae and funk on a grassroots level to the Rubix stage, Dub Princess has been growing from strength to strength by pushing the boundaries of soulful Hip Hop. Drawing upon influence within Melbourne’s underground scene and gaining a reputation for being a pioneer of smooth grooves, her live performance is sure to set the scene for the rest of the night. With “Perceptive vocals (which) are seamlessly interwoven with elements from Hip Hop, Reggae, Downbeat and World music grooves, mixing sexy electronic goodness with instrumental lushness,” – Bush Week Festival you won’t want to miss the fresh sounds from this trailblazer of good vibrations and cultural lushness.

Bailey Jones

Joining the already star studded lineup are fresh faced young guns Bailey Jones. Establishing themselves in the scene with their Neo-Soul vibes and bodacious grooves, these guys are sure to get the Rubix stage burning with energy and excitement. As a band made up of Australian Institute of Music Students, we are pleased to have them on the bill to show support for our cause and to ignite your sonic senses with lush ambience and feel in the lead up to Dub Princess and headliner Diafrix.

ShifteQ

After a night filled with eclectic genres and good times, there is only one way we could think of ending the evening….. with some Gangsta tunes chock-full of attitude, deep 808, fun remixes, and most of all some BASS. If you’re keen on partying, there is no better way than to dance out the evening with our very own ShifteQ providing a DJ set you will never forget.

As students presenting this event, we are proud to be involved in an initiative close to all of our hearts as well as the performing artists on the night. With all proceeds from the event going to charities providing assistance to refugees, we would love to invite you down and enjoy an evening of energetic tunes, good company and to support a cause worth illuminating in society.
