Damien's story:

Damien became a friend years ago when he married a school friend Rose in 2002. In 2007 they had their first son Ethan followed in 2010 by Edward. They moved to Port Stephens for a lifestyle change in 2014 which they have been loving. Then in July of this year after suffering sinus pain and impaired vision, Damien was diagnosed with a carcinoma cancer in the paranasal sinus which was Grade 4, meaning it was aggressive and needed urgent treatment starting with an operation. During the 16 hour surgery they removed Damien's left eye and some of his palate and teeth, his face was then filled out with tissue from his leg. Damien required a tracheostomy after surgery and feeding via a tube. He spent 3 nights in ICU and made a good recovery in hospital and was back home within two weeks and able to manage a soft diet which he is continuing with.

A few weeks later Damien then commenced radiotherapy and chemotherapy. He is due to finish radiotherapy in early November and chemotherapy mid November however the impact of the cancer and treatment will be ongoing as Damien recovers physically and adjusts to the changes from treatment.

We have organised this movie night to show our support for Damien during such a challenging time. Damien and Rose have been amazing with how they have faced and dealt with this challenging time but it has required and continues to require unpaid leave from work so the funds of this page will be used to help meet financial commitments while Damien is recovering and the prosthetic eye which he will likely be able to have next year.

A GoFundMe campaign has also been set up to collect donations and this campaign can be found at https://www.gofundme.com/78772nwu
