The Film: An Indonesian fishing boat abandons a group of Iraqi and Cambodian men on a remote part of the Western Australian coast in 1990. Told there is a bus over the dunes, the men are abandoned to a desert the size of Poland. While most are quickly rounded up, three men with little in common but their history of misfortune elude capture and begin an epic but confused journey drawn on by their hopes amplified by the empty desert. Pursued by an army reservist unit more concerned with playing ball sports and music, the three protagonists wander deeper into trouble, searching desperately among the harsh beauty of the Pilbara for evidence of a Western, liberal democracy or the promised bus, which only one of them finds.

Two Fat Blokes Gourmet Kitchen and De Iuliis wines would like to invite you to the inaugural Around Hermitage Wine, Food & Film Festival. We promise to bring you a night filled with delicious food from the Two Fat Blokes Gourmet Kitchen matched with the outstanding wines created by 2015 Winemaker of the year award recipient Mike De Iuliis and of course a great night of entertainment with the screening of the iconic Australian movie; Lucky Miles.The intriguing and humorous story of a group of immigrants filled with hope of a new life, arrived by boat and dropped on a near deserted beach in Western Australian dessert to begin their new life in the land of plenty.

The Venue: Overlooking lush grounds at De Iuliis Winery, Two Fat Blokes Gourmet Kitchen has created an ambiance to rival the cafes of Provence and Tuscany. The Kitchen enjoys expansive views over the De Iuliis Vineyards and is a great spot to sit back and enjoy some great food and wine.

The Wine: As one of the Hunter Valleys top producers, the De Iuliis family aims to make wines that are unique yet highly identifiable with a sense of time and place. Our secret is attention to detail with a modern small-batch approach to winemaking. What’s not a secret is a vast array of awards and great reviews bestowed on us over the last few years.

The Food: “Nothing illegal here!” Antipasto platters with 3 local cheeses, smallgoods & char-grilled pimentos, eggplant & zucchini, Olives & caramelised balsamic onions, crackers & baguettes. Mains, choice of Beef Bourguignon on creamy garlic mash or Portuguese chicken on pilaf rice, followed by Shots of Limoncello tarts /Zabaglione with amoretti biscuits / Moscato Granita.

Wine: With Antipasto platters – De Iuliis Sparkling Chardonnay; With mains – 2 glasses of De Iuliis white or red wines. 

As food is provided, strictly no BYO Food or Drink, please notify the venue of special dietary requirements at least 48 hours prior to the event.

The Seating: We will have seating for people to have their dinner, but BYO seating for the movie. Bring low backed chair and picnic blanket.

Dress Code: Come dressed as your favourite Aussie Film Character, bring warm clothing for cooler nights.

Transport: Car parking is limited. Transfers to the event from your Around Hermitage accommodation will be available at additional cost. $15 per person return – pre-book your seat.
