In the nine years since Catherine Traicos has been singing, writing songs and performing, she has released five critically lauded studio albums, performed across three continents, and been named Unpaved’s Female Artist of the Year (2012). The release of The Earth, The Sea, The Moon, The Sky in 2013 enjoyed loving feedback, the Music saying; “Traicos utilises her vocal gifts to weave gorgeous songs out of simple-yet-purposeful and poignant words.” And The Big Issue affirming; “Catherine Traicos confirms her position as one of Australia’s finest and most underrated songwriters with material that is near hymnal: whisper-quiet, secretive confessionals. This record is a delicate triumph: powerful and very moving.” Earlier releases also received high praise, with Rolling Stone describing her work as “…an impressive meeting of the earthy song-writing of Beth Orton with the grim undercurrents of, say, Portishead” and The Age’s Melbourne Magazine calling it “…redolent in parts of the ragged, eerie estrogen blues of PJ Harvey or the gaunt bluegrass sonnets of Gillian Welch.” From Nashville’s Bluebird Café to the Live at Heart Festival in Orebro Sweden and to our own Sydney Opera House, Catherine has serenaded audiences with her hauntingly beautiful voice. A voice that has both equal parts delicate fragility and impressive strength. This beautifully dusty blues voice paired with her delicately grungy finger picked electric guitar is a match made in music heaven.
