While Frank Sinatra was not a jazz singer as such, every jazz singer acknowledges Sinatra. Why? He phrased like a horn player and set a standard for a swinging approach to popular singing, while simultaneously exploring the depths of a song like a consummate actor. This is where he differed from his idol, Crosby. Frank had depth. And it’s in his movies we see Sinatra’s two unique gifts coalesce.
Screen Sinatra explores Old Blue Eyes in film. While there are numerous Sinatra shows on the scene, none examine songs from his movies.
A natural entertainer, ‘Old Brown Eyes’ (Dorian Mode) and his swinging trio will take you through Frank Sinatra in movies, with lots of laughs along the way. The show is highly entertaining, peppered with fascinating anecdotes about Frank’s life and unique vocal approach.
Not to be missed!
DORIAN MODE (Piano/Vocal)
Dorian Mode is a multi award-winning entertainer who is as well known for his funny novels as his music.
Upon leaving school he sat for a degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where he was eventually signed to EMI Records – one of the few Australian jazz artists to be signed to a major – releasing his debut CD Rebirth of the Cool. Dorian has recorded numerous CDs with his last jazz CD winning two ABC Music Awards for Best Jazz Composition and Best Instrumental. He has been awarded three ABC Music Awards in total.
He’s performed at leading jazz festivals and venues including The Sydney Opera House and on numerous television shows such as Hey Hey Its Saturday, Tonight Live, The TODAY Show, Good Morning Sydney and many more.
He has written two novels (published by Penguin – Random House in Europe) and is a widely published humorist with leading magazines and newspapers.
He is a sought after entertainer performing in the Spiegel tent at Adelaide Fringe and Sydney Fringe with his new cabaret show.
He has a Masters Degree (Hons) in Music and in 2014 was awarded a doctorate.
