Lucy Voronov, from Minsk (Belorus), plays the cimbalom (tsimbali), an instrument of the dulcimer family, with 76 strings that are struck with wooden hammers or plucked. A spectacular and charismatic performer, Lucy is the winner of International Competitions for Folk Instruments, and one of the world’s leading exponents of the cimbalom. Cellist Anatoli Torjinski, from Odessa, is one of the most in-demand players on the Sydney World Music scene, a master of haunting sounds & brilliant jazz/world-style improvisations. Guitarist & Domra-player Stephen Lalor grew up playing mandolin with local and later Russian groups. He furthered his skills on domra (Russian mandolin) in Kiev (Ukraine). He has performed at major Australian & European Festivals, and as a mandolin specialist performs regularly with Australian and overseas orchestras.

For Gypsies music is religion and music comes from their religion. Music comes from the soul and so whether we are in Paris or Bucharest or playing Swing or Bolero, the soul of the music tastes the same. Tinel Dragoi is from Romania; Rom Gypsy Father, Romanian Jewish Mother. Violin was his only option in life. Jose lives his professional life on the streets of Sydney, Gypsy Style, playing on every street corner. The combination is like an electrical storm in the Bohemian mountains
