Each trio performs one set culminating in the presentation of new compositions as the tour quartet.
Hotel Blue will welcome Jack Beeche back home to the Blue Mountains for a 'Live in the Attic' on Sunday May 22nd. 6:30-8:30pm, $15 per person, bar & kitchen open. Come along from 5:00pm to enjoy Martyn Cook playing Celtic harp in the lounge beforehand (free event).
BIO:
Jack Beeche Trio
Jack Beeche – saxophone
Dan Mamrot – guitar
Aaron McCoullough - drums
Upon completion of his Masters of Music Performance in 2015, Melbourne based saxophonist Jack Beeche released his trio/quartet album Golden Blue. His ensemble performs at many Melbourne venues, including Bennetts Lane, the Uptown Jazz Café, the Paris Cat and this March will tour as a quartet to University of Tasmania and MONA in Hobart. Having been a featured artist on NSW radio stations Eastside Radio, Fine Music and ABC Jazz, Beeche is collaborating with trumpeter Brae Grimes for a ‘Double Trio’ tour to Sydney and surrounds in May of 2016. During this tour he plans on presenting his new album to audience networks established from time spent in Sydney, Canberra, the Blue Mountains, Newcastle; and previous NSW tours with Tim Willis – The End (2012) and Daniel Hunter Quartet (2015).
The Jack Beeche trio explores jazz standards and original material with a focus on spontaneous conversations between instruments. The Contrapuntal dialogue of this improvised music acts as a continuous communicative thread between each musician and the song forms performed. Joining Beeche (Tim Willis - The End, Issho, Stephen Magnusson) is guitarist Dan Mamrot (Tim Willis - The End, Monash Art Ensemble) and drummer Aaron McCoullough (Darren Archer, Dan Gassin, Bopstretch).
BAD Trio
Brae Grimes - cornet
Aaron McCoullough – drums
Dan Mamrot – guitar
Lyricism punctuated by polyrhythmic motifs, melody veiled by intriguing harmonic ambiguity, thematic improvisations driven by common sensibilities; these are the communicative traits of a band forged from the left-wing, multicultural citizenry of Melbourne’s northern suburbs. Brae Grimes (cornet, composer), Aaron McCullough (drums, cymbals), and Dan Mamrot (electric guitar, effects) are The BAD Trio - an ensemble dedicated to developing improvised trio music. Together they aim to explore the textural possibilities of their unique format, while remaining pragmatic and respectful of their contribution to the trio canon.
