With 3 EPs behind her, rising alt-country artist Imogen Clark has recently released her debut album, Love & Lovely Lies. The 21 year old is thrilled to be embarking on a national tour to celebrate the release of her 8-song collection, which captures the pain and joy of entering adulthood and the search for self-belief with her richly melodic voice and lyrics. Imogen, who cut her teeth performing to crowds in Blue Mountains cafes will return home for a heart-felt performance at Hotel Blue.
"This record means a lot to me. I've been learning about who I am and what I want to say for a long time and in this album, I hear the sound of self-discovery and the incredible fun we had recording it. I couldn’t be prouder of the record, and couldn’t be more thankful to everyone who has helped me along the way. These songs represent a sense of myself I'd never felt before now, and the most unforgettable year of my life so far. I hope people can hear some of their lives in it, too.”
What took two years to write, fans have already had a taste of Love & Lovely Lies with videos and singles ‘Take Me For A Ride’, which peaked at #1 on iTunes Country Singles Chart, and ‘You’ll Only Break My Heart’. Directed by Jeremy Dylan and filmed at an inner city warehouse in Sydney, the ‘You’ll Only Break My Heart’ video follows the heartbreak story of falling for someone you don’t trust, who you know will ultimately end up hurting you. Touted as a ‘songwriter well beyond her years’ – Kasey Chambers, Imogen began writing Love & Lovely Lies in her hometown of Bowen Mountain, New South Wales in 2013. Over the next two years, she continued working on songs which would make up her first album while supporting and playing alongside the likes of Matt Corby, The McClymonts and Kasey Chambers. Imogen represented Australia twice at the Americana Music Festival in Nashville and performed locally at Blue Mountains Folk Festival, Sydney Blues & Roots Festival, and Sydney's Vivid Festival. In late 2015, Imogen travelled to the small town of Cowwarr, Victoria, to record and co-produce her debut album with musicians Harry and Jack Hookey at Knutsens’ Studios. Between the three of them, they played all the instruments on her debut album.
Imogen came to national and international attention with the release of her third independently released EP Stories from a Porcelain City (2013). Praised as one of Australia’s most promising young songwriters, Imogen’s lead single 'Ceaseless Goodbye' was shortlisted for APRA’s prestigious Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition and given an Honourable Mention in the Nashville-based International Songwriting Competition.
“I love playing live. Next to songwriting, it’s my absolute biggest passion. I can’t wait to get out on the road again and bring these songs and stories, and this album I’m so proud of, to venues around Australia. See you out there!”
If Imogen isn't enough, there's also pre-show enetertainment in the lounge. Bar & kitchen open. 6:30-8:30pm.
