The Spirit Of Zimbabwe

When the rhythms of Zimbabwe come to town the nation starts to smile, and the dance is inevitable. Come and celebrate the rich heritage of the music of Zimbabwe, from authentic traditional to old hits and contemporary lively township jive.

Chris Gudu & Afro Pamoja (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe). Chris Gudu was born to a musical family and has always known music to be his life. There is always the unmistakable and unique magic when Chris Gudu & Afro Pamoja take to the stage. Their unparalleled performance has the richness of that unique and powerful soothing yet exuberant, exhilarating and ‘get up and dance’ kind of rhythms. Afro Pamoja comprises some of well respected and sought after talented and well trained musicians who always leave the audience wanting more and more. If you have seen this fine band on stage before you know for sure that you are bracing yourself for another awesome treat. “Completely and utterly out of this world” – The Chronicle

“The Chris Gudu performance is worth experiencing, not just once but over and over again” - The ABC.

Simba Mushete and Echoes of African Music (Kwekwe, Zimbabwe) is a unique band devoted to resurrecting the old sweet melodies from Zimbabwe. There may be a lot of people out there who do not realise the richness and the awesome power of the rhythms of Zimbabwe. Simba and his band do just the job of bringing it all back to life, live and direct in a magnificent fashion that will undoubtedly put a smile on your face and get you onto the dance floor in an instant. Those old Zimbabwe hits from the 60’s all through to the recent times are all packed in to one fine package as the band pounds away some irresistible rhythms and grooves from Zimbabwe. Who better to do it for you that the one and only Simba Mushete, a songwriter and composer who has worked at various levels with the legendary Zimbabwean icon Oliver Mutukudzi.

Felix Simba Machiridza (Harare, Zimbabwe) is the front man of the Zambezi Sounds, a six piece band that performs traditional Zimbabwean music. On this night you will experience amazingly electrifying and very well executed warm traditional mbira sounds from the master of the traditional Zimbabwean instrument ‘mbira’, dubbed in the western world as the ‘thumb piano’. Felix Simba Machiridza is a man of many talents including not only playing the two typically Zimbabwean traditional instruments, mbira and marimba, but making them too! That’s not all! He is a story poet and a story teller too! Certainly not a performance to be missed.
