Luke Collings & Greasy Lake
Luke Collings has been a long-time player on the Sydney alt.country scene, having been a guitarist and songwriter with The Pennydreadfuls, Two Trains Running, Mem Davis & The Kindred Spirits, and Buffalo Wolf. In late 2015 Luke felt the call to make his own way in the world and began writing a bunch of new tunes that took inspiration from the best of modern Americana while still having an eye on traditional country sounds. By early 2016 he was taking the stage for his first solo gigs and was soon being backed by Greasy Lake, featuring Dan Laurence (cavaquinho/accordion/vocals) and Richard Schweizer (bass).
Luke Collings doesn't hide his love for the classic country sounds of Merle, George, Hank and Waylon, as well as newer voices such as Sam Outlaw, Chris Stapleton, and Hayes Carll. His original tunes also take inspiration from across Americana, with bluegrass and folk influences sitting alongside those of New Orleans and Mexico. Recording of his debut solo EP will start before the end of 2016 with national shows to follow. In the meantime Sydney can hold onto one of their newest and most unique country voices for a little bit longer.
Widow's Walk
Widow's Walk is David and Philippa. They are keyboards and guitars, loops and pedals, slide and synth, folk and pop. formed in the inner west of Sydney their music explores grief, anxiety, spirituality and love.
