Andrew Robson

Composer and Band Leader Andrew Robson is amongst the most esteemed jazz musicians working in Australian jazz today. Andrew’s sound is unique in character and his subtle lyricism processes an intense and affecting power. For Andrew's debut performance at Hotel Blue, expect a night of musical diversity and excellence from this exceptional line-up.

Featuring his long time collaborators, Lloyd Swanton (bass) and Hamish Stuart (drums), the Andrew Robson Trio has released two critically acclaimed albums for Rufus Records, Scrum (1997), Sunman (2000) and a third critically acclaimed album, Radiola (2007) on his own label, Lamplight Records. His most recent album features nine original compositions including tributes to fellow saxophonists Benny Wallace (‘Big Ben’) and Steve Lacy (‘Lace Work’). It is fitting that he would pay homage to these players. Like them, Robson is a saxophonist who is equally at home in traditional and avant-garde settings. Besides his trio, Andrew Robson performs with a myriad of groups including James Greening Quartet, The World According to James, and ARIA award-winning world music group, the Mara Ensemble and Ten Part Invention. He composes extensively for all projects in which he is involved.
