WORKWISE Advisory Services presents the second of our 'Breakfast Series' events which will help business owners better understand one of the most confusing areas for employers - the workers' compensation and injury management scheme.
Workers compensation, injury management and return to work programmes require good management and it is imperative for employers to understand their role. The Workwise Advisory Services team fields many questions in the area, ranging from how workers compensation payments affect an employee’s entitlements, to how a business copes with an injured worker having extended time off work.
There is often confusion and urgent decisions required around appropriately managing an employe who is injured at work. Not all of the decisions made are sound and when things go wrong or when communications lines are closed there are myriad ‘urban myths’ that are taken by many to be factual which further exacerbate poor decision making.
When it comes to workplace injury, both the employer and employee have obligations and responsibilities to fulfil, particularly in the areas of safety policy, reporting injuries and entering into return-to-work programs. However, the specific obligations and rights for both employers and employees are not necessarily well-known by the parties involved.
According to a recent WorkCover Annual Report, in the 2014-15 year almost 33,000 claims for workers’ compensation were lodged in WA, so it would pay every business in WA to know their rights and obligations sooner rather than later.
Guest speaker Karin Lee, who manages the Regulation Branch within WorkCover WA’s Regulatory Services Division, will give an introduction to WorkCover WA and discuss employer obligations at the breakfast. WorkCover WA is the government agency responsible for managing the workers’ compensation and injury management scheme in Western Australia.
Karin will join Bridget Green and Grange Insurance Solutions Director Ray Thompson to answer questions at the end of the presentation.
The breakfast will be held on November 18 from 7.15-9am at the Back Beach Cafe in Bunbury. Bring a business card for the door prize, which is valued at $500 compliments of Workwise Advisory Services.
Workwise Members should use their promo code when registering to ensure they access their special member discount.
