Mike and Andy Bevan have been playing together all their adult lives despite living on opposite sides of the globe. Andy, from Tokyo (saxes and flutes) and Mike from Adelaide (7-string guitar) enjoy a sophisticated synergy play music that is exciting and intricate, as well as delicate and romantic. Their original compositions and singular arrangements exude a sensitivity and zest inspired by a range of genres. Their unique synergy and ability to improvise comes from a deep mutual respect.

Now touring with the release of their album, Mike and Andy will celebrate their life-long musical partnership in a performance featuring original,Brazilian and jazz music. They will be joined by Fabian Hevia on percussion (from Sydney/Adelaide) and fantastic Brisbane musicians Helen Russell bass and Luiz Carlos Cunha piano.

Growing up in Adelaide, Mike and Andy's musical journey began in their early teens when they began to explore the worlds of rock, blues and jazz together, Mike playing 7-string guitar and Andy playing saxes and flute. Later their musical journey expanded to include other genres, including Brazilian music.Little did Mike and Andy imagine that they would end up playing their music all over the world.

Becoming very talented and highly respected musicians, they began to go their separate ways, with Mike performing jazz, blues and Brazilian music in Australia, Brazil, Japan, Korea and the US. Mike tours the country regularly in various musical contexts and has played many festivals such as WOMADelaide, Bellingen Global Carnival, the Famous Spiegeltent, the Adelaide Fringe and Cabaret Festivals and the Adelaide International Guitar Festival with Brazilian guitar maestros Doug de Vries and Yamandu Costa.

Andy began travelling through South-East Asia absorbing the various cultures and musical traditions of Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal and India and eventually settled in Japan. He now actively performs and records in a broad range of musical settings with some of Japan’s top artists – including Bossa Nova artists Lisa Ono and Naomi & Goro - modern jazz pianists Hakuei Kim and Masaki Hayashi – Japanese traditional performers Shonosuke Okura (otsuzumi), Eitetsu Hayashi (wadaiko), Kakushin Nishihara (biwa) – classical flautist Kaori Fujii – and original world-music projects, "Tatopani" and "Tokyo Groove Alliance".

Despite living on opposite sides of the globe they have managed to keep playing together all their adult lives, spending time together each year.Over the years they have played and recorded together in numerous and varied contexts. Mike and Andy enjoy a sophisticated synergy as they play music that is exciting and intricate, as well as delicate and romantic.

Though they have both done many recordings and released many CDs, this year they finally decidedto create their first formal recording together, creating a CD titled “Never Too Far Away”. During production in Andy’s studio in Japan they invited old friends and Tokyo-based musicians Christopher Hardy and Mark Tourian to join them on percussion and double bass on selected tracks.

Many of their early influences can be heard on the album. A distinct Brazilian flavour in the compositions by three of that country’s most respected composers- Guinga, Egberto Gismonti and Maurício Carrilho­– is augmented with the openingBossawritten by Adelaide singer Charmaine Jones, and twoChoros composed by Mike. The title track is from jazz guitarist Pat Metheny, while Andy contributes an original jazz ballad.Their original compositions and singular arrangements exude a sensitivity and zest inspired by a range of genres.
