Dutch Jazz singer Judith Nijland dared to think outside of the box and with her band she took stock of the vast repertoire of the Swedish group. Together they tackled a large number of famous and some more obscure songs. The songs remain intact, but jazz takes over. The result is a creative musical outburst. The audience will be swayed back and forth between recognition and surprise. And ABBA will never sound quite the same again.
Judith has released 5 albums, received great reviews, had lots of airplay and frequently tours in her own country, Holland. But her skill and talent as a jazz singer has also seen her play her music in New York, London, Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, Italy and Thailand.
Now she is coming to Australia to reunite with pianist Marnix van Bruggen for her Australian tour. Marnix van Bruggen started playing piano in his country of birth, The Netherlands. He studied jazz piano with Tilmar Junius, Frank Stagnitta and Marc van Roon in The Hague and rose to become highly regarded in the jazz scene. He performed extensively throughout Holland, Belgium and Germany and played at numerous jazz festivals in Holland, including the North Sea Jazz Festival. Marnix worked together with singer Judith Nijland since the early 90’s until he moved from Holland to the Sunshine Coast with his family in 2012. Now Marnix is very active in the Coast’s jazz scene and is well-loved here but is excited to be reunited with Judith for their Australian performances.
Together with local stars Peter Walters (bass) and Max Sportelli (drums) they bring their world-class show to the Sunshine Coast on Sunday 15th January, 2017 at “The Jazz Sessions”. From standards and originals by Judith and Marnix to Judith’s jazz tribute to ABBA - this will be an afternoon to remember!
