Despite their youth Les Poules à Colin have been a group for seven years. All five have blossomed into intuitive performers and together have been turning heads wherever they go, whether to Europe or across North America.

Their own sound brought freshly inventive vitality to these deeply planted roots, centred on bright yet sultry twin female vocals, with instrumentation including banjo and mandolin...plus powerful, pulsing electric bass alongside fiddle, piano, and subtly deployed foot-percussion.

Some numbers rang artful changes on traditional ballads or call-and-response songs, ingeniously spliced with Quebec’s irresistibly rollicking dance music. So wrote Sue Wilson of The Scotsman after seeing the band at Celtic Connections in January 2016. They were further described as "sparkling" and "beguiling" although "badass" could also work: the trad world having only recently witnessed females plugging in and displaying instrumental chops.

With their second album Ste-Waves, the band explores further the alliance between Québec trad and polyglot styles, whether jazzy pop, folk, bluegrass or contemporary. They take us into their world through original compositions, arrangements, harmonic progressions and reinvent age-old traditions. It was nominated at l'ADISQ for Traditional Album of the Year, and they are working on their third to be released in 2017
