Lawyers for Animals invites you to our fourth Animal Law Breakfast, kindly sponsored by Maddocks.

In 2016 we commended the Victorian Government's initiative in seeking to achieve "better animal welfare standards" and to "modernise" the existing animal welfare system, by designing and implementing an Animal Welfare Action Plan in consultation with the community. Within the 2016 Draft Action Plan, Action Area 3 (of 3) states: "Compliance and enforcement is efficient and effective." In seeking to promote efficient and effective enforcement of animal cruelty laws, Lawyers for Animals has chosen to focus our Animal Law Breakfast 2017 on progressing an answer to the question: 'How can we best improve animal cruelty law enforcement?'

With the help of two very knowledgeable guest speakers (who are kindly donating their time):

  • Lizzie Blandthorn MP, Ambassador for Animal Welfare (Victoria); and
  • Dr. Liz Walker, Chief Executive Officer, RSPCA Victoria;

we aim to examine the advantages and disadvantages of potential reforms to our existing system of animal cruelty law enforcement, including New York City's new model, which some consider international best practice.

In hopes that you can join us, here are the event details:
