Please join us for a seminar focusing on emerging uses for geospatial data. Our speakers will include:

Ron Avery Senior Team Leader Biodiversity Information Systems, Office of Environment and Heritage

Ron has worked in the fields of marine and vegetation ecology, conservation planning, GIS major projects and biodiversity information management. As a past frustrated data user he now revels in the opportunity to improve coordinated investment, logical data structures, data quality and open access to biodiversity information products. He currently manages the NSW Bionet, Vegetation Information system and the SEED data portal.

Ron’s presentation will introduce the newly developed NSW environmental data portal – SEED, an initiative proposed by the NSW Chief Scientist in response to recent strategic land-use concerns. SEED is designed to be the primary space where people come to access, contribute and share environmental data in NSW. https://www.seed.nsw.gov.au/. Ultimately the success of SEED rests on the quality and relevance of data it contains. We also examine new biodiversity data standards and data products being developed under the NSW BioNet program, including standardised vegetation mapping and mashable open data services.
