ABOUT BALBI

The music of the artist, composer, and producer Steve Balbi mines a kaleidoscope of life at the margins. Transcending rock and pop while coalescing sentimentality and soul, Balbi bespeaks Bowie and Dylan in melody and verse, exploring the heterogeneity, refinement, and dirty rotten groove of Radiohead.

Perhaps best remembered as the founding member of Electric Hippies and Noiseworks – although presently the front man of ‘80s new-wavers Mi-Sex as well – one never quite knows what to expect from Balbi when he takes to a stage of his own. Yet the exposition of songs & stories that brings together a selection of material from his new record, accompanied by hits and out-takes from his eclectic back catalogue, is tantalising enough.

For the creative chameleon, the past two years have provided the time to peel-back yet another layer of skin to reveal an entirely new pigment – an iridescent orange in colour – composing, recording, and producing in his home studio. This new fabric of songs includes a new 12" LP, I Think I Know For Sure, which is available now on CD and Limited Edition 12” vinyl. ABOUT ANDIE

Growing up in the Blue Mountains, Andie gained a hefty YouTube following throughout her teenage years under her old pseudonym, which brought opportunities for international touring and collaboration, and crowdsourced projects that caught the eye of major players in the industry including SONY.

Revaluating her career intentions and aspirations as a largely self-taught and immensely passionate soul/jazz/folk musician, Andie thought it best to turn a new leaf from a brand she felt was heavily tied to the YouTube sensibility, into a mix of popular covers and original work. This change has been a weight lifted.

Many fans of Andie’s previous work have joined the cause in support of her current musical journey, meanwhile this new chapter in her professional life has provided the creative freedom to create without expectation. Standing at 4’11 and a half, with steel lungs, infectious laughs and a totally DIY kitted out school bus as a house, Andie is synonymous with her raw lyricism and relatable energy.

THE EXPERIENCE

Pigeon Lane @ Gallery One88 is a COVID-safe venue so, in the interest of public safety, social distancing requirements are upheld. At the time of this announcement, COVID-capacity restrictions mean that tickets are limited to just 26 patrons.

However, if you find that the ticket allocation for your selected event is exhausted, please place your name/s on the waitlist. This is because COVID-capacity restrictions are likely to be relaxed between now and the show, in which case additional tickets will be released for sale.

Songs & Stories is an exclusive dinner and show event, which includes a set 3-course meal with a vegetarian and non-vegetarian option, so please be sure to select your dietary preference at the time of purchasing your tickets.

Many events promise a 'speakeasy' experience, yet there is no other venue in the Blue Mountains quite like 'Pigeon Lane', Gallery ONE88's live music quarter. Why, you ask? Well, you won't find the entrance to Pigeon Lane on Katoomba's main drag; you must take a stroll down Katoomba's 'Art Street' (aka Beverly Place)... Walking past the ever-changing tapestry of street art, rated as one of the 'Top 10 Things to Do in Katoomba' according to TripAdvisor, you need to find a green door at the rear of the gallery. Don't expect a big neon sign or a grand entryway though - it helps to bring someone who has been here before and keep your eyes peeled. Once you cross the threshold, you will pass through a peculiar ticketing booth, a quirky corner bar (although the venue doesn't yet have a liquor licence - so it's BYO) and enter Pigeon Lane.

Like the eclectic underground venues of Paris, Buenos Aires, and New York City, Pigeon Lane is adorned with antique chandeliers, timber floors and exposed brick, a small stage framed with red velvet curtains, and individual tables, to accompany artwork and vintage curiosities to pique your roving interest.

The acoustics in this space are divine and the aesthetic exquisite, which is the perfect storm for bringing out evocative and profoundly passionate performances by every musician who graces its stage. Having hosted the likes of Steve Kilbey (The Church), Abby Dobson (Leonardo's Bride, Baby et Lulu), Steve Balbi (Noiseworks, Electric Hippies, Mi-Sex), Jak Housden (Tim Minchin, The Whitlams), Eugene 'Hideaway' Bridges, Lloyd Swanton (The Necks), Sandy Evans (10 Part Invention), Paul Cutlan, Gary Daley, Trish Delaney-Brown (The Idea of North), George Washingmachine, James Greening and many, many more, the quality of music is second to none.

You won't want to miss a show here as there aren't many rooms like this.

THE MEAL

Victor Peralta is both a celebrated artist and executive cook, who will be curating a dining experience like no other. Featuring 3 majestic courses and fine-dining experience, meals will be delivered to your table by alternative drop between sets.

REFRESHMENTS & LICENSING

For these events, Pigeon Lane is BYO only, with an array of non-alcoholic refreshments and themed mocktails available for your experience.
