The Czech & Slovak Film Festival WA brings you an amazing film about one heroic act which changed the face of the Europe for long years - Anthropoid.
Anthropoid
Anthropoid is an extraordinary film based on a true story of a strong will, heroism, dedication and self-sacrificing. The New York Times described Anthropoid as “Incredibly tense".
Anthropoid stirs up a fever pitch’. It is not only a historical film set against the backdrop of the amazing scenery of Prague but also an intense drama that draws the viewer in no time.
‘Operation Anthropoid’ is the code name for the Czechoslovak operatives mission to assassinate SS Officer Reinhardt Heydrich. Heydrich, the main architect of the Final Solution, was the Reich’s third in command behind Hitler and Himmler and the leader of Nazi forces in Czechoslovakia. The film follows two soldiers from the Czechoslovak army in exile, Gabcik (Cillian Murphy) and Kubis (Jamie Dornan), who are parachuted into their occupied homeland in December 1941. With limited intelligence and little equipment in a city under lock down, they must find a way to assassinate Heydrich, an operation that would change the face of Europe forever.
The assassination of Heydrich was the only successful government-organized assassination of a top-ranking Nazi in the Second World War. What followed was a backlash by the Reich that killed 15,000 Czech citizens and completely destroyed two villages.
This breathtaking masterpiece is a must-see movie so definitely do not miss out!
