Bio - Jackie Marshall

Jackie Marshall is a songwriter composer and Queensland Conservatorium trained vocalist (Jazz) who creates music in alternative adult contemporary genres and is currently working on completing a third full-length studio album. Her cinematic alt-folk debut album "Fight n'Flight" was short-listed for the Australian Music Prize alongside such luminaries as The Drones, Gotye and Lisa Gerrard. Since then she has toured Australia and abroad multiple times, and has released a run of critically acclaimed recordings including the alt-country “Ladies' Luck” LP, an EP under the moniker The Peppercorn Queen, and an experimental album with producer Robin Waters via The Thin Air Project titled “March Gathering 2015”.

Marshall’s solo shows are intimate, hilarious, and very moving. She holds nothing back.

"That rare thing - an Aussie original." The Weekend Australian

Bio - Paul Andrew Carey

"The first time I heard Paul Carey sing, I knew there was something special going on there. The second time, I started to think that this guy is more brave, insightful and uninhibited than most songwriters in this country. The third time, I was a converted fan."

Shane Nicholson - Multiple award wining singer/songwriter/producer

Five time Golden Guitar winner, ARIA Best Album, etc

In various forms Paul has been invited to share the stage and bill supporting different acts from all over the world.

His early music career was fronting/writing for 90's soul/rock band 'Gumption' who besides blazing a trail for regional original music, were hand picked by Australian music legends Cold Chisel to open for their late 90's reformation tour. He has also toured and played alongside the Tea Party, Van Halen, Penelope Swales, Archie Roach, Rody Radar, Scream feeder, Dr Seuss’ Signature, Midnight Oil, L7, Mousemoon, Screaming Jets, Billy Thorpe, Leigh Ivan, Streety, Buck, and others…..

“yeh…I’ve popped up in my own and others projects in various places, in fact I’ve laughed, loved and hated all the way up and down the east side of Australia with some groups I’ve created music with, and I ended up getting a lot of that into songs”.)

He was a pivotal figure in Newcastle’s infamous bustling music scene of the 2000's, fronting/writing with his soul, country, blues, rock acts 'The Mojo Liberation Front', and 'Evolluap', as well as playing organ for reggae band 'The Gualliards'

Paul is also an award winning Songwriter, with a ‘Triple J Unearthed’ award, and a ‘Best Rock Song’, and ‘Best New Talent’ from the Dolphin Music Awards, North Coast of NSW. He has co-written with known Australian Singers including Jerremy Edwards, Katie Brianna, and Kutcha Edwards. Kutcha and Paul's song 'Blind Joes Creek' opens Kutchas 'Blak n Blu' album, and he spent two years performing as Kuthcha’s guitarist.

Recording projects have seen him join such studio personnel as Dave Henderson (Whitlams), Steve James (Aria producer of the year 2000, Oblivia, Monty Python), Paul Wooseen (Screaming Jets), Tonchi MacCintosh, Bruce Vickory (Gumption), Zac Lister (Black Jesus Experience) and others…..

In 2003 Paul released his 1st solo album “the poetry n jazz, mojo joinin’ n moanin’ folk’n bluesy funk fest”, a genre hopping collection of flexible musical and lyrical honesty, selling almost all copies in his then home town of Newcastle alone.

This was followed by his 2nd release ‘Chickenwire Politics’.

“For that album, we set up and recorded in the coolroom of a closed down Bowlingclub that had become a hub for artful community, just set up and started laying tracks down live. We got a lot of character and passion onto tape. It suited the way I like to make music, raw, unencumbered and drawing the essence out of what’s available, what’s actually happening, without a lot of pressure being placed on the process”.

From the late 2000's until present, Paul has lived in Melbourne where amongst the busy demands of raising a young family and paying the rent, he has fronted/written for his bands 'Evolluap', and 'The Lustral Water', and performed with Kutcha Edwards, and Tonchi MacIntosh. He has worked professionally as a songwriter for YMCA, Buroondara Council, and Mind Australia, writing songs with 'at risk' people experiencing mental health and social isolation concerns.

“This is where my song-writing really grew deeply, Id been getting some strong emotion and imagery to come alive through my songs for some time, but working in this role changed me, and what I was doing with songs. It taught me a lot about story and getting humanity, and personality into songs, telling stories about people around me, what was going on for them…what their life was like…”.

He has continued to perform, often to the attention of some of the countries established acts and artists, such as Shane Nicholson, who's quote opens this Bio, and their are others too within the wider Alt Country community that know Paul is a talent waiting to be further discovered.

"Paul Carey is a humble songwriter, who ignites and feeds the hungry spirit with powerful imagery and originality. His words and music mark him as a master craftsman and one cannot argue that his muses herald from the same constellation as Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen's, Perry Keyes, Willy Vlautin, and Leonard Cohen's. The world will soon know."

Luke O'shea - six time Golden guitar winner, APRA song of the year, CMAA Country music awards of Australia: Male artist of the year, etc.

"What I saw was an unassuming, bearded man take the guitar. What I felt from the first note on was out of this stratosphere. The conviction of Paul’s performance left me shaking and with no warning, I found tears running down my face. Powerful stuff.

I 100% stand by the statement that I have not heard a more quality, eclectic, compelling, incredible songwriter in a long, long time. Maybe not ever."

Aleyce Simmonds - 2017 APRA Award Winner - Country Work Of The Year

Tamworth’s own 6 x Golden Guitar and 4 x CMC Award Nominated singer/songwriter

"Keep your eyes and ears open to Paul Carey. He is indeed a rare find in singer-songwriters, Fearless, talented, and completely original."

Jeremy Edwards - Musician/Producer: for Karise Eden, Toni Swain, Cyndi Boste. Producer Award at the 2006 Musicoz Awards.

Paul’s songs and shows are never the same twice. He takes what ideas and emotions are going on for him and just lets them live, lets them breathe on the night and in the performance. He comes across as a beautiful savage fool possessed with talent, at other times he is a soul man of infinite concern. His music can disentangle you from a few devils, a few underwater thoughts.

Paul Andrew Carey, takes audiences to places their not always used to, places they might not always want to leave, at least not in a hurry.
