“Immediately engaging on so many levels… a narrative that embraces contemporary classical, European folk, and jazz” – Guy Strazz
Five years in the making, Some of Two Parts is the exciting all-original duo improvisations of saxophonist Loretta Palmeiro with accomplished pianist and composer Mark Isaacs.
From a bedrock of jazz and contemporary classical music, they play with folkloric elements and qualities of the Iberian peninsula such as flamenco and fado.
Co-founder of the Spyglass Gypsies and director of Alma Orquestra, Loretta plays with Mara, the Divergence and Sydney Jazz Orchestras, the Australian Symphony Orchestra, and is a casual musician with the QSO.
Both Loretta and Mark’s musical studies originated in the classical hemisphere and have been coupled with an explorative passion for improvised music. Mark has been exploring the spirit of duende, the dark and soulful current that runs through the most animated music.
In meeting and playing spontaneous inventions with versatile saxophonist Loretta he found a like-minded soul and a spirited duo was born. The results can be passionate, furious, brash, delicate.

“The future belongs to artists of this calibre” – All About Jazz
Described by The Age as having “an instinctively melodic approach”, saxophonist Angela Davis is a unique and sought-after musician with two critically acclaimed albums as bandleader.
The Art of the Melody (2013) launched at world-renowned New York City venue The Kitano, and received rave reviews throughout the USA and Australia. Her second album as bandleader, Lady Luck (2015), was shortlisted for three Australian Jazz Bell Awards including Best Instrumental Jazz Album, Best Produced Album and Best Australian Jazz Composition.
Currently Lecturer in Jazz at the James Morrison Academy of Music (SA), Angela holds a Masters of Music from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and received the Brian Boak Outstanding Performer Bursary in 2014.
As bandleader, she has performed at the Brisbane International Jazz Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival and the Wangaratta Jazz Festival. Angela has performed with jazz luminaries such as Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, John Hoffman, Kristen Berardi, Dan Tepfer and Linda Oh.
In her Sydney International Women's Jazz Festival performance, see why the New York City Jazz Record says, “She does her part to keep the cool school alive”, and The Australian praised her “beautifully elegant, honeyed alto tone, reminiscent of Paul Desmond”.
