This workshop will demonstrate how the eroded foredune on this section of Woolgoolga Main Beach can be re-formed by catching and holding the sand that is blown along the beach.

CHRL staff will conduct the workshop using a method developed by Soil Conservation Officer Peter Corlis with natural materials, which will decompose over time.

We will build simple wind fences, constructed of low cost biodegradable materials, to trap sand blown by prevailing winds and restore the profile of the foredune.

Like many local beaches, Woolgoolga Main Beach has seen quite severe dune erosion in recent years, causing coastal trees to fall onto the beach. This is due not only to weather and wave action, but also to human impact, including pedestrian traffic.

This hands-on demonstration day is funded through Coffs Harbour City Council’s Environmental Levy Program
