GILDAS LE PAPE (NORWAY)

GILDAS LE PAPE is one of the most versatile guitarists of his generation.  Equally at home in both metal & jazz, he has developed a strong voice in each world.  Originally from France & now based in Norway, he was a member of the legendary Norwegian black metal band Satyricon for many years.

He learned gypsy jazz in Paris, alongside some of today’s leading players.  After various jazz projects & a couple of albums under his own name, he joined the iconic Norwegian group Hot Club de Norvège in 2018, with whom he has performed extensively ever since.

Le Pape has cultivated a personal & distinctive approach to gypsy jazz, blending it seamlessly with bebop & other influences.  His style, influenced by musicians such as Serge Krief, is characterized by intensity, depth & a strong command of harmony.
