Jamie Hutchings returns to Django Bar for his first solo performance in over a year. The acclaimed Sydney based singer/songwriter has maintained a cult following for nearly three decades now via his solo work, as well as fronting acts such as Bluebottle Kiss and Infinity Broke. With last year’s very successful reunion tour with Bluebottle Kiss and a new album of improvisationally based pieces due in March, Hutchings is set for another productive year! Catch Jamie in the intimate confines of Django Bar on Thur February 16th. You will hear selections from the past, present and beyond.
Jamie Hutchings is a singer/songwriter/guitarist and sometime producer. He began his career as the frontman for much loved underground favourites Bluebottle Kiss in the 1990s through to the noughties. The group released six acclaimed albums and toured many times around Australia as well as North America and the UK where some of their material was also released. Of the band, All Music in the US said “…this is challenging, rugged, dramatic rock with folk tendencies woven intricately into its coarse fabric.” He has released four solo albums, two albums with the percussion heavy quartet Infinity Broke as well as an album in collaboration with Peter Fenton as The Tall Grass. A frequent live performer, Hutchings’ music has seen him tour throughout Europe numerous times, North America and even China. His production work has involved artists such as Peabody, The Maladies and Mark Moldre and he has guested and collaborated with artists such as Paul Dempsey and Peter Garrett.
“Hutchings has played in several bands of note, to reasonable success — the fierce and flexible Bluebottle Kiss, Infinity Broke (with Wills, brother Scott Hutchings and BBK member Jared Harrison), The Tall Grass (with Peter Fen-ton, of Crow) — but to my mind he is at his best in solo mode, and has rarely been better than here.'”
